I just followed this tutorial on how to use Quicksilver to quickly create new files without opening an application but I changed the last bit.
Instead of making a folder to hold my templates I simply created a symlink to the templates folder I store on Dropbox.
Viola! Now I have the same templates to choose from on any of my computers.
After setting up, invoke Quicksilver then:
- type name of printer and hit tab
- type open and select open file
- type current and select current selection
This method to append the currently selected text to any text file using Quicksilver is exactly what I was looking for. I’ve created a Trigger for it and assigned a global shortcut of COMMAND + OPTION + V.
I’ve decided to try Quicksilver. This timer tip (think: tea) is terrific… I wish there were a way to bind it to a keystroke or something. I also wish that some of the other advanced uses for Quicksilver (the ones that attracted me to it) would reliably work.
NOTE: Another way I can do this is to simply use Quicksilver to open the scripts included with Minuteur(stopwatch/timer app) which will launch the app and begin countdown.
