Ponyo is super awesome. I love, love, love, love it.

The pastel/colored pencil looking backgrounds combined with intensely fluid, erm, fluids, was amazing. I think there are plenty of subtleties of animation that will only surface after a few watchings.

The humor that Tina Fey and Betty White give lines, combined with the totally believable behaviors of innocent 5 year old main characters, make for a great film on many levels.

Even more amazing that the film were the terrific beginning and end credits. The ones at the beginning were done in a cool, line–y style. The end credits were brief, had cute icons for each contributor and yet made no mention of who did what. That’s right, the credits start with “We made this” and go into cutely listing all the people who made the film, without the usual “dolly grip” or “head animator of studio a” or “sound environment muffin baker” or whatever. I hope that many films do the same in the future. We can always look it up online, right?
