A Veteran Mad Man Remains in the Fold - an interview of Al Jaffee.
I was surprised to learn that he paints all of the Mad Fold–ins on board and thus doesn’t fold them while painting. It’s all done by eye!
My name is Erik Mallinson. I draw pictures, make music, and some other stuff. I like playing the ‘ukulele, riding my scooter around Boston, and playing board games.

Kevin Holesh makes the Letterpress theme I use on Tumblr. I just want to take a moment and say thanks. Thanks for being awesome!

Eventually I discovered for myself the utterly simple prescription for creativity: Be intensely yourself. Don’t try to be outstanding; don’t try to be a success; don’t try to do pictures for others to look at - just please yourself.

The Pentel p207 is still my favorite pencil. Cheap, refillable, and a good eraser (just don’t push too hard).
I was really excited for these but now could care less.
Pentel P207 is my favorite mechanical pencil. It’s a refillable pencil (the erasers too) that is built so well that I have never had one malfunction, yet is inexpensive enough that I don’t mind if I lose one.
I just picked up a P205 and P209 (different leads, lighter/darker lines) and I’m excited to try out the more expensive PS535 and the PS315. As far as I can tell the PS535 and the PS315 have a sleeve mechanism that keeps the lead more sturdy, yet other than that there isn’t much of a difference.
Note: I posted this a while back on Gravel Road Studios and I’m reblogging it to here to go with my other p207 posts.

I’m Aware - a terrific new song and video from Clinic. I stopped listening to them after their first album but I think I’ll pick this one up.
Reminds me of Michel Gondry’s I’ve Been Twelve Forever.
File under “Science telling us what folk wisdom has told us forever”:
“We remain recognizably the same person,” said study author Christopher Nave, a doctoral candidate at the University of California, Riverside. “This speaks to the importance of understanding personality because it does follow us wherever we go across time and contexts.”
…
Personality is “a part of us, a part of our biology,” Nave said.
I’m much closer to the person I wanted to be when I was 10 than when I was 20. I think that’s a good thing.
You can’t really succeed at what you love, do what you care about, without embracing it.

I love the similarity of this to the idea in this Borges quote regarding poetry.
