I asked and they listened
Over Twitter I asked the Tumblr staff if they could add tags to the sample content that everyone sees when they visit the Customize page. Having tags there makes it a lot easier to find/design a Tumblr theme that supports them. Mere moments later the Tumblr team had replied and added tags to the sample content. Thanks Tumblr! You saved me a lot of time.

101 Ways to Save Apple →
I remember reading this 1997 article years ago and laughing at some of the stupid stuff they recommended. Here are some things I probably scoffed at but look how relevant they are now, specifically for the iPhone: Build a PDA for less than $250 that actually does something: a) cellular email b) 56-channel TV c) Internet phone. Continue your research in voice recognition. It’s the only way...

How I Browse
Oh man. The ⌘-L tip is new to me. Really awesome. Thanks! johnholdun: LTWP: Does anybody else feel completely naked when web-surfing without the status bar? No. Here’s a screenshot of my Safari: Everything is hidden but the tabs, but is all accessible via the default keyboard shortcuts. ⌘-T opens and selects a new, empty tab; ⌘-L shows and selects the location bar; I type...

RIP Herrell’s →
Awesome essay on the history of Herrell’s by Gus Rancatore, owner of Toscanini’s about the beginnings of Herrell’s Ice Cream and the artisanal ice cream movement. I never knew that Herrell’s started in Davis Square, nor that it predated and influenced Tosci’s and Ben and Jerry’s.

David Lynch presents Fox Bat Strategy →
Like the music of David Lynch’s Twin Peaks? Check out Fox Bat Strategy: For well over a decade now, Fox Bat Strategy has existed unreleased and unheard, slowly marinating in the ether of time, all the while retaining a uniquely modern sensibility. A musical pet project of film director David Lynch, Fox Bat features a cast of musicians who began collectively collaborating with Lynch surrounding...

Created for obsessive-compulsive designers, Build is no ordinary web conference. With a description like that I thought they’d offer 100 bars of soap to each attendee and provide a giant refresh button on the news page.

Philadelphia Public Library Closing →
A city’s public library system closing is not a warning that something bad is coming but a confirmation that a vital organ of the local government is diseased and needs emergency care. I hope they get this worked out. We deeply regret to inform you that without the necessary budgetary legislation by the State Legislature in Harrisburg, the City of Philadelphia will not have the funds to operate...

The Twelve Stages of Bread
From: The Bread Baker’s Apprentice: Mise En Place – Everything in it’s place is the organizing principle. Mixing – In which three important requirements must be met. Primary Fermentation – Also called bulk fermentation, win which most of the flavor is determined. Punching Down – Also called de–gassing, in which the dough begins to enter its secondary fermentation and individuation. Dividing...

Quietube - making videos minimal →
Oh, this is awesome. minimalmac: Quietube is a bookmarklet which upon activation takes you and the current video (eg. a Youtube video) to a quiet place, a place where comments, ratings and any other unnecessary things do not exist. Videos should be about the content, not about what other people think about it. (Submitted by oscarpalmer) Like Readability for YouTube.

No distraction. Just text with myTexts
Seems to be in between WriteRoom and Scrivener. I love it and must keep an eye on its development. Currently I’m digging WriteRoom.ws on my desktop using Fluid and WriteRoom.iPhone. WriteRoom.iPhone syncs to WriteRoom.ws which is a web–based version of the popular WriteRoom. minimalmac: Writing is fairly a lonely process that’s best enjoyed without the presence of anything keeping you away...

WatchWatch
I just started The Bread Baker’s Apprentice and was excited to find that Peter Reinhart gave a TED Talk on bread back in July 2008. I can’t recommend his books enough. Last year around this time I decided to pick up his book American Pie – (my review here) and have made the recipes from there twice a week every week since. I can’t wait to tinker around with bread recipes. PS — If you’re in the...
